Graduation Commencement Ceremony and Rehearsal Information

Brent Masel, M.D., to deliver 2008 SAHS Commencement Address

Masel is a Board Certified Neurologist, is President and Medical Director of the Transitional Learning Center at Galveston.   Dr. Masel is a graduate of the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and completed his post graduate training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.  He maintained a successful private neurology practice in Galveston until 1994 when he accepted his current position at TLC.   He holds clinical appointments at the University of Texas Medical Branch in the Departments of Neurology, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. He also holds a clinical appointment at the UT Health Science Center in Houston.   He has conducted research and published in the areas of headache pain management and brain injury rehabilitation.  He has also published and is currently involved in numerous research studies  including sleep abnormalities, metabolic abnormalities and hypopituitarism following brain injury, as well as virtual reality as a rehabilitation modality.  He is on the Board of the TIRR Foundation and the Brain Injury Association of America. He is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Brain Injury Association of Texas.

Commencement & Rehearsal

As your student work at UTMB draws to a close, it is time to begin thinking about graduation details! Your SAHS graduation ceremony will be a very pleasant and memorable occasion.

Students will be completing a number of important forms that are processed for your graduation. Here are some additional important details:

• Parking:
  • For Moody Gardens ceremonies, parking is available in the Moody Gardens Convention Center Parking Garage and surrounding lots as directed.
  • For on-campus ceremonies, Garage 4, located on 12th and Mechanic, will have free parking. There will additional free parking in the lots west of Levin Hall.
• Regalia: Order your caps and gowns from the UTMB bookstore at least two months prior to graduation. You may order in person or by calling (409) 772-8672. Your cap and gown can be picked up during the week leading up to graduation.  Note: Be VERY VERY careful if you decide to iron your gown as they will melt if the iron is too hot!
• Photography: UTMB photography will be taking pictures during the rehearsal and ceremony. All commencement photos can be viewed a few days after commencement at www.partypics.com. You will be provided a pass code on how to access that site.
• ID: During the ceremony you will receive an orange tube that you will exchange for your diploma at the end of the ceremony. After the ceremony, you must show a picture ID that clearly identifies who you are, in order to receive your diploma. NO EXCEPTIONS.
• Address:  Be sure Enrollment Services has your correct address.
