The Division of Humanities and Basic
Sciences (HUBS) offers courses that are appropriate to and may be
utilized by two or more of the professional curricula in the school. SAHS faculty present these courses with the cooperation of faculty of
the various schools and institutes at UTMB. Designated by the prefixes
CORE, HUBS, and INDS, these courses utilize a variety of learning
experiences, including seminars, conferences, self-instructional
programs, laboratories, demonstrations, field experiences, and
independent research, as noted in the course descriptions below. Courses
are scheduled in cooperation with the participating departments.
Some courses are of variable credit
and may be repeated for credit when content changes. For specific credit
designations for these courses, refer to each department’s section in
this bulletin.
Enrollment in division courses is open to degree-seeking students
registered in the professional curricula of the SAHS; may be granted to
students enrolled in the other schools on campus; and may be granted to
non-degree-seeking students. For information about non-degree-seeking
enrollment, refer to the Academic Policies section in this
bulletin. Acceptance of a non-degree-seeking student in the division is contingent
on the availability of resources and satisfactory completion of course
prerequisites. Prerequisites for degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking
students, if any, are cited at the end of specific course description.
