Admission into the UTMB Master of Physical Therapy Program is based on a rating system. The rating categories on which an applicant is judged are: Previous Academic Performance, Interview, Letters of Recommendation, and Overall Review of the Folder.

| Math and Science GPA | |
| Overall GPA (Overall and Last 90 hrs GPA are calculated. The better GPA of the two is taken as the Overall GPA) | |
| At least 72 hours of Academic Work Must Be Completed Prior to Interview | |
| Grades in Math and Science pre-requisite courses greater than 10 years old will not be calculated |
| Student is interviewed by one faculty member and one PT clinician | |
| Questions regarding academic skills, knowledge of profession, clinical experience, special abilities etc. |
| One recommendation form must be from supervising PT | |
| Two recommendation forms from other persons |
| Two faculty members review the entire application folder independently | |
| One of the faculty members reviewing the folder interviews the candidate | |
| One faculty member not interviewing the applicant reviews the folder | |
| The two faculty ratings are compared for agreement. | |
| If the two faculty members disagree, a third faculty member reviews the application folder. |
