Find a web site that would provide parent support and/or teaching in an area of infant or child respiratory disorders. Please review the site and give feedback about its' contents, accuracy, and ease of use for the parent or caregiver.
Choose one of the following procedures and make an outline of how you would teach a parent or caregiver the following task. (Be sure to review the education section of your text.) You may send this to me electronically as an email attachment. (Submission guidelines)
- MDI with spacer & mask
- MDI with spacer
- SVN with mask
- SVN with mouthpiece
- Peak flow meter
- O2 concentrator
- O2 liquid oxygen system
- O2 cylinders
- Chest PhysioTherapy
- Nasotracheal suctioning
- Trach & stoma care
- Ventilator care
- Apnea monitoring
- Pulse oximetry
Try to find infection control materials for the patient requiring respiratory care in the home. (Places to search would be: home care companies, AARC, National Association home pages). If you can not find one, you can use a hospital infection control procedure and adapt this to the home patient.
Standard precautions and transmission based isolation procedures were developed for the acute care setting. Explain how you would utilize one of these if you were a homecare RCP.
Prepare a home care equipment cleaning and disinfection kit for your home care patient. Remember your patient will be purchasing these items and may or may not receive any reimbursement. Choose one of the following procedures for your kit:
- small volume nebulizer
- humidity therapy
- aerosol therapy
- trach & stoma care
- suctioning
- ventilator care
